I’m here to work myself out of a job.
I worked as a behavior technician with children on the autism spectrum for 8 years. And every day I went to work with three goals:
To help hoist those little humans towards the skills they were capable of.
To make the process fun and rewarding for both of us.
To do it so well that they wouldn’t need me anymore.
And the more that I worked with these little humans, the more I realized how much we big humans need this, too.
My mission goes beyond excellent fly fishing instruction. I create environments where adults learn to believe in themselves and reclaim ownership of their life experiences. And fly fishing is the perfect conduit.
When I started teaching fly fishing, I used the same techniques and processes that I used to teach children. And what I saw was remarkable. When adults have structured, efficient coaching from a patient, dedicated teacher, they learn with incredible speed and clarity.
I don’t go to work everyday for the children anymore. Instead, I go to work for…
The parents out there struggling to re-form their hobbies and identities around a chaotic schedule that doesn’t leave time for trial-and-error learning.
Working professionals who find themselves craving a way to enrich their off-work hours so that life feels balanced.
People who’ve had challenging learning experiences and crave the safety of a fail-free learning system.
Anglers who are tired of the self doubt and frustration caused by relying on others to fish for them.
And while my audience has changed, my mission and methods remain the same. If I can empower adults to reap the full benefits of fly fishing and change their lives for the better, I’m happy to work myself out of a job.
